"Hey you better lay some sounds on me," said Peter Noone after a good half hour of listening to Cat Stevens and David Bowie demos that could become Noone solo singles, and heavy sounds from Crazy Horse and Ry Cooder. Peter sat through Blind Date, listened to the records, made constructive criticisms and poked fun at the "heavy" scene in a tongue in cheek manner.
JOHNNY WINTER: "Jumpin' Jack Flash" (CBS).
Johnny Winter isn't it? Fantastic. Is it Johnny Winter? Good. It's the McCoys backing him, right? Those McCoys used to sound like Herman's Hermits once. It's nice to see them changing and being accepted as a backing band for Johnny Winter.
They've got a great drummer, do you know him? He's really one of them wild drummers playing all over the kit. Is that a single? Oh, it's alive. It's bloody good for a live recording. I thought there was something wrong with the equipment because the sound was strange. Amazing isn't it, they used to be just like Herman's Hermits.
EAST OF EDEN: "Wonderful Feeling" from the album East of Eden (Harvest)
Funny, because it was cooking before. Sounds like one of those nine guitar groups doesn't it. Who is that voice? Cold Turkey, the guy from Family. It could have been him bleating. It's an English group isn't it? I don't know who it is, but who knows one from the other anyway. It doesn't mean anything to me, actually. I only buy albums when a review draws me to it. I don't like bass players who want to play lead. It just turns me off. It's really Stones, man, groovy and freaky, does it keep going on like that? God it'll send me to sleep. It's good for what it is. The lyrics are so obvious aren't they? If times are changing fast how come it's just the same.
THE JACKSON 5: "Never Can Say Goodbye" (Tamia Motown)

What was that, can you just play the beginning again? Nice, that is going to be a big hit, whoever is it? Is that on Invictus or some label like that?
Very nice record. Tamia again. They're having to keep going at it because they had a couple of bad flops in the States. It's the Jackson 5 isn't it. At first I thought it was one of those chick singers they have. It's 16 Magazine in the States. It's a great scene all that. I was involved in all that bit too. I'll hear enough of this on the radio anyway, so can you take it off. Thanks. I worry about these young kids involved with pop groups. I remember when I was 17 there were always people trying to turn me on to new things. Being brothers I don't know how they can last, what happens when one of them turns seventeen and wants to become a mechanic.
MARC ELLINGTON: "Blue Suede Shoes" from the album Rains/Reins of Change (B&C)
You gave it away already. Unbelievable that faked screaming on there. I thought it was a plane flying over there. 1970 Carl Perkins and I haven't faintest what they're trying to do.
PETER GREEN: "Heavy Heart" (Reprise)
"It's like Fleetwood Mac or Peter Green, could be anyone. It's nice in it's own way. I can't see it getting played on the radio though. You never know though, it is very different. Every record could be a hit these days except for the Blue Suede Shoes. The funny thing is that when they get a hit they say we're a heavy band and never wanted it anyway. All we wanted was the £70,000 in the bank
MARSHALL HOOKS AND CO: "I Want The Same Thing Tomorrow" (Blue Horizon).
I like that. I just hope it's not Joe Frazier, because he might be making records and getting upset about the review he's been getting. Wow, over there now. That's quick thinking boy wonder. They all do that swopping round tracks now don't they. Could be anyone again and what does it matter. I like it. Is he a guitar player, because this is a guitar player's record. I don't know who it is.
