Herman - the happy-go-lucky lad with a cheeky grin as broad as the Manchester ship canal. Such was the impression he gave me as I spoke to him when he visited Maidenstone's Royal Star Ballroom. With his backing group, the Hermits, he gave a truly refreshing performance, characteristic of any really talented artistes. Their repertoire was extremely varied ranging from straight R 'n' B to slow sentimental numbers like "The End Of The World" and "The Wedding," which proved what a versatile singer young Herman is.
As well as playing their past three hits they also featured "For Your Love" a number written by Barry the drummer for the Yardbirds. The audience also had a preview of their next single, "Wonderful World."
I asked Herman his opinion about the change to live performances on R.S.G.: "I'm looking forward to it very much" he replied. Regarding his personal tastes in music he said, "I like everything including folk, I have lots of folk L.P.'s.
Their forthcoming tour of America should certainly establish them there as one of Britain's most talented and promising young groups.
