LONDON - After three weeks of searching for Herman, I finally fell over him at the BBC "Pop Inn" TV studios. Dressed in a polo necked shirt and clasping a drink, he looked highly nervous.
"I can't help it. I always get this way before going on stage," said Peter. "I just shake to pieces!"
Meanwhile the Noone was sitting and shivering on. He managed to get out that he was looking forward to a forthcoming tour of America. "We are going to take a big band with us and do the colleges - that's something I've always wanted to do," said Peter. "They are such a quiet attentive audience. We are going to produce a kind of musical history on stage from the big band era and songs made famous by people like Jo Stafford through The Beatles."
Just recently Herrman had seen "The Nancy Sinatra Show" on TV and he was raving about the production. "It was so good I felt like applauding after every number," said Peter. "The only time it slowed down was when they were sitting and Nancy sang with Dean Martin - but the Americans are so far ahead of us in this field it's ridiculous."
A motion was put that we should all go to a little pub called the Captain's Cabin and 15 minutes later we were all installed at the bar along with about two dozen young ladies who had fought their way in past a protesting manager. Herman drank wine.
"I have a weight problem and wine is about the only drink that doesn't affect me," said Peter.
Herman is about to tour in England again for the first time in over two years and he is very anxious that he should get the right audience. "I've really had all the screaming bit," he admitted. "We've got new groups appearing with us like the Amen Corner and I'm hoping the audience will scream at them and listen to us."
Peter admitted to me that he is now getting very tired of "Herman" - the teenage wonder.
"It's a daft name, anyway," said Peter. "It served a purpose but I'm now appearing in films and things as Peter Noone. I want to get back to being me as soon as possible."

  1. "I don't care if a girl's hair is long or short as long as it looks good on her shape face."
2. "Don't wear make-up that makes you look pale and sick after a wash. Keep your make-up as natural as possible."
3. "Only wear a mini-skirt if you have the figure for it. Have you ever seen mini-skirts on girls with fat necks? They stand with their shoulders funny and look all out of proportion!"
4. "Don't wear shoes that look like boats! Young girls never wear them in England. Even my mother wouldn't wear them, and she's old - maybe 42!"
