Real name: Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone.
Born Manchester - November 5, 1947.
Height, 5 ft. 9 in. Weight, 9 st. 10 lb. Fair hair, blue eyes.
Sings and can play piano.
Educated Stretford Grammar School and St. Bede's College - also at Manchester School of Music.
Parents: Denis and Joan. Has two sisters.
Was at manchester School of Music two years - taking mainly classical lessons in acting and singing.
Decided on singing lessons when his part in "Knight Errant" TV series required him to cope with songs.
Also appeared on TV in two children's plays - one of the "Saki" programmes - and "Coronation Street" (In which he played Len Faircough's son).
Fave colour: blue
First public appearance: "Knight Errant" (1959).
Says his fave food is Afghanistan steak!
Entered pop world at youth club in Manchester, when talked into going up and singing with group called The Heartbeats.
Had previously become pop fan by watching performers like Cliff Richard, Hollies and Wayne Fontana.
Hates untidy people and semolina pudding.
Likes all kinds of music.
Got nickname of Herman when Heartbeats thought he looked like Sherman - character in TV cartoon series called "Bullwinkle" - and got the name slightly wrong.
Speaks very good German.
Is very friendly with Twinkle.
Heartbeats became his backing group - The Hermits. Present line-up: Lek Leckenby (guitar), Barry Whitwam (drums), Keith Hopwood (guitar), Karl Green (bass).

Once went floating on log down Manchester Ship Canal with Karl - and was so excited by beat music from transistor on bank, he fell in.
Disc label: Columbia. First disc: "I'm Into Something Good." Released August 1964.
Prefers being called Pete.
Before hitting disc charts, money for him and group was £15 a night. Now about 20 times that.
Played Dick Whittington in panto at Chester Royalty last Christmas.
Re first trip to States (late 1964) says, "We met some swinging girls who were mad keen surfers." Adds that in Los Angeles club he saw Bo Diddley, Righteous Brothers and The Shirelles "all in one gas of a show."
Recording manager is Mickie Most.
Likes hamburgers with sauce and lots of onions.
Fave group is the Inkspots - famous long before he was born!
Before signing with Columbia (through Mickie Most) had been turned down by two record companies.
During rise to fame, his Manchester fans used to emboider WE LOVE HERMAN on their sweaters - and at Derby two fire engines had to be called out to control the crowds.
Likes horror films.
Fave composers: Burt Bacharach, Goffin-King.

Mickie Most flew to Manchester to see Herman and group after their manager had sent him an airline ticket.
His sisters are Denise (19, married) and Suzanne (18 months).
Once auditioned for a part in Lionel Bart's "Oliver." Got through three tests. "But," he says, "I was reckoned to be too tall and awkward - and I would have had to learn Cockney!"
Hit charts with first three discs: "Something Good," "Show Me Girl," "Silhouettes." ("Can't You hear My Heartbeat?" was smash hit in America - but in Britain was B side of "Silhouettes").

Quote: "We used to play Beatle numbers till Graham Nash of the Hollies told us to develop our own style. We thought so much of the Hollies, we would have performed standing on our heads if they had suggested it."
Before The Heartbeats became The Hermits, they had spells as The Dreadnoughts, Vacuums, Thunderbirds - and Nuts & Bolts.
Advice from Graham Nash was given during one-nighter at the Stamford Hall, Altrincham.
Had to cancel Swiss holiday because of success of "Silhouettes."
Fave film star: Tom Courtenay.

Paid five bob bet to Cathy McGowan when "Something Good" reached number one.
At end of April 1965 went to America for long tour in Dick Clark's "Caravan of Stars."
Before start of Columbia career, recorded LP tracks as part of "Liverpool Cavern" LP for Oriole label.

Was earning £100 a week when he was 13.
Parents used to live in Prestatyn, Wales - now have house in Huyton, Liverpool.

Early in 1965 his publicity representative became Dawn James, whose sister is Twinkle.
In April 1965 had three discs at once in American Top Hundred: "Silhouettes," "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat?" and "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter."

Still has bo-bo bronco horse bought for him when he was a kid. (It is a toy horse which moves forward when you ride it.)
