A rollicking, romantic, song-filled adventure in today's swinging London, featuring the sensationally popular singing group, Herman's Hermits, led by Peter Noone, and the endearing comedian Stanley Holloway. "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" adds up to happy motion picture entertainment.
Filmed in Panavision and Metrocolor on locations in Manchester and London, the Allen Klein production for MGM begins in the former city, where 19-year-old Herman Tulley (Peter Noone) and his budding pop-swingers have become disillusioned with their hum-drum lives and yearn for the excitement of the Big Town and the chance to win fame and fortune.
Their opportunity arrives when Herman inherits a sleek racing greyhound which romps into first place in the Manchester heat of the national Greyhound Derby. With the winnings, Herman's Hermits are off to London, after fond farewells to Herman's devoted grandmother (Marjorie Rhodes) and to Tulip (Sheila White), the tomboyish girl-next-door who is hopelessly in love with Herman.
Once in London they encounter a series of both hapless and humorous adventures, involving Mr. Brown (Stanley Holloway), a fruit-and-vegetable tycoon, and his wife (Mona Washbourne), their glamorous daughter, Judy (Sarah Caldwell), who works as a model, and the Honorable Percy Sutton (Lance Percival), a philosophical tramp who becomes their first benefactor.
In the events that follow, the boys take the greyhound to the White City, London's famed greyhound arena, where the dog wins the preliminary heat for the Derby and is assured of
a place in the final race. In the meantime, they are offered a night club engagement - and Herman falls in love with Judy Brown.
Just when it appears that Herman and his friends are nearing their goal of fame and fortune, catastrophe occurs. The dog disappears.
Without going into added details of the plot, it can be said that before the final rousing song fadeout of "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter," Herman's Hermits wind up back in Manchester, where Tulip has turned from an ugly duckling into a swan, and their returned greyhound is going to provide them with a dividend in the shape of a little daughter!
The picture's foot-tapping score includes eight songs, among them the famous title tune, which has sold more than 1,000,000 records around the world. Herman's Hermits deliver their musical interludes with their celebrated infectious beat, and Stanley Holloway of "My Fair Lady" fame is also given an opportunity in the song spotlight.
"Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" was directed by Saul Swimmer from a screenplay by Thaddeus Vane, with the photography under the direction of Academy Award-winner Jack Hildyard.
In addition to Peter Noone, lead singer of Herman's Hermits, the group comprises Barry Whitwam (drums), Keith Hopwood (lead guitar), Karl Green (bass guitar) and Derek Leckenby (lead and rhythm guitar). They all contribute handsomely to the felicitous and melodic entertainment of "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter."

Bernard Shaw's Pun Not Aimed At Peter Noone

"Youth," once observed George Bernard Shaw, "is utterly wasted on the young."
But for every mop-haired youth and mini-skirted girl who make Shaw's announcement seem like an understatement, there are youngsters who enjoy their hectic lives to the fullest.
One such is talented young star Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone, better known by millions of pop-music fans as Herman of the internationally famous Herman's Hermits, who are currently starring with Stanley Holloway in the swinging musical, "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter," an allen Klein production for MGM.
Peter Noone probably has packed more into his crowed twenty years than most people experience in a lifetime. His talents as a pop star have taken him twice around the world.
"I'm fortunate to have seen and done so much at my age," he says. "And the fact that I am young has meant that my interests are continually being aroused by new experiences. There is so much of the world that we - the boys and I - have seen in the past three years. And one important thing has come out of it. When you see how difficult life can be for youngsters in many parts of the world, you appreciate what you have at home."

Peter Noone waves as he sings one of the lilting songs in "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter," tuneful comedy of today's groovy generation, starring Herman's Hermits. The famous group, with Noone at its head, introduce eight of their songs in MGM's swinging musical adventure, photographed in Panavision and Metrocolor.

Noone is a boy to whom the most important people in his life are his father, mother and three sisters. He would sooner spend an evening tinkering with his father's car than frugging in a beat-club.
"I think the most important factor in a well-adjusted approach to life is the ability to feel contented with your lot," Noone declares. "No matter what job you have, if you feel that you are giving it the most of your ability, that
makes for happiness. Of course, people have scoffed at me and suggest that it's easy for me to say that because of the success Herman's Hermits have had.
"But I can tell you truthfully, if I hadn't made a go of it as a pop-singer, I'd have worked hard at some other occupation and with the same approach."
It would seem that George Bernard Shaw erred in his statement, at least so far as Peter Noone is concerned. There is every evidence that youth has not been wasted on him.
