Herman told me I could let you in on this secret because only you could possibly help him. He was describing what it's like to tour here in the United States and mentioned how lonely he sometimes becomes. Naturally he's always surrounded by his best friends, the Hermits, but that isn't the kind of lonliness he feels. What he has really always wanted is a girl. Not just any girl, but a very special girl. He needs someone he can communicate with. And she has to be someone who cares for him as Peter the person, not Herman the star. But how could he possibly ever find her during his exhausting tour of one-night stands? Then, one night, when Herman was by himself in a hotel room, fate played a nasty trick on him. While Herman was taking a brief nap, his manager came into his room with a huge carton of fan mail. When Herman woke up, he decided to take a look at one of the letters. All of a sudden, a warm glow burst all over him. This letter was written by a girl who understood his feelings, and had a sense of humor. She intrigued him. Herman knew right then and there that he just had to get to know this girl. But as he was about to sit down to answer her letter, it was time to leave for another show. He left, vowing to answer that letter the second he got back. But lo and behold, when he got back to the hotel room he was absolutely crushed. The letter had disappeared and no one knew where it was!
So last summer I asked you to write me if you thought that you were the girl Herman was looking for. Since then, I've been absolutely drowning in mail, and Herman has called a dozen times to see if FIFTEEN has been able to find THE girl. Try to write a letter to Herman which will be as much as possible like the letter you wrote the first time. Send this letter to HERMAN PROBLEM LETTER, 8383 Sunset Strip, Hollywood Calif. 90069. Herman will then personally read all these letters and do his best to pick out his MYSTERY GIRL. |
