Love That Fang - Is Herman's toof the secret of his spellbinding magic?

By Sara Bechtel, age 15

When HERMAN'S HERMITS did one of those TV variety show bits recently, a certain cameraman was almost ridden out of town on the rails after the show.
His great sin? He had failed to get a single good close-up shot of Peter Noone's milk tooth.
This must be the most famous tooth in dental history. Somehow or other, when Herman smiles a certain way and that milk tooth sets off that famous dimple, a strange osmosis occurs deep within millions of girls, young and old.
MOOTEEN asked a fairly representative number of females of varying ages about this milk tooth phenomenon and to protect the innocent, we have listed their verbatim opinions alphabetically.
     A. "Well it's cute. Boyish. I don't know. It draws you to him. I'd blow all my baby sitting earnings to buy a French perfume to wear if he asked me to a prom."
     B. "It goes with his dimple. It's like Abercrombie and Fitch. Jan and Dean. Sonny and Cher. With Herman, it's milk tooth and dimple. Just between us girls, I think you're a nut to even ask. Sheesh!"
     C. "It helps me picture him in the desk next to mine. Studious. Sweet. I get all that from his tooth like radar."
     D. "See, I read that Herman likes sodas. So I picture him with a soda straw alongside that cute milk tooth. Milk tooth and milkshake. It's boyish. Cute. It goes with his neatness."
     E. "What's the big deal? Herman has it. He said once that he likes girls who have long, straight hair. That's me. Put him in touch."
     F. "He's clean. Wholesome. The milk tooth kind of conveys the idea of unworldly boyishness. I'm younger in years, but I could mother that sweetie."
     G. "Herman? Rrrrroowwww!"
There were more, unquotable, but you get the idea. Peter Noone, dimples, milk tooth, gorgeous hair and questing eyes not withstanding has that extra appeal.
Success has not turned our Herman, but it has turned a lot of fickle female fans more surely in his orbit. They dig that spin.

Heart warming Shelly Fabares is the luckiest girl in town. She not only won Elvis in a recent epic, but now has Herman in tow. Shelly, with her hidden bombshell innocence, seems to be the ideal girl image for Herman. Our Hollywood rumor vine tells us that Shelly has been chosen to play opposite Elvis for a second flick.
