I WAS PLODDING THROUGH that same old course: endless hours of geometry.
The door bell rang and there in the hot morning sun stood Faith. She ran past me into the house almost knocking me over and started talking excitingly.
"Guess what??? (a sneaky laugh) You'll never guess!!" She kept on laughing and pounding me on both shoulders.
I tore away from her and said, "What? . . . the school burned down! We don't have to go to school anymore??"
"No you ninny!!! HERMAN'S HERMITS are coming to SACRAMENTO!!!! How about that you Herman lover?? (How can you ask a question like that??) You know what else?? YOU are going with me and Angela, Dale, Lynne, and Erica! Huh . . . that is if you want to."
After a few minutes of utter speechlessness I nodded a vigorous yes, yes.
Without really knowing it, I pushed Faith out of the house. I ran looking for my mom and when I finally found her I told her. She laughed and said, "You and your 'erman's 'ermits!!"
It was about two o'clock when Faith and I went to Angela's house. We went to her room and blasting from it was "There's a Kind of Hush." We walked in and she introduced herself. She was charming and really nice. I could tell right then and there I would have competition for Herman. She stood a mere 5'2" (but tall for me because I'm only 5') with long, dark brown hair and matching eyes.
All I could talk about was Herman, that handsome, cuddly Peter Noone, and Angela listened with a far-away look in her eyes and a smile on her face.
The next morning, Angela drove us to the box office where we bought second row seats in the very, very center (Right near where my Herman would be).
The next three weeks were pure torture. All I could think of was seeing MY Herman and his mighty Hermits. I even typed his name instead of my lesson. I also messed up a dress I was making for the concert. Instead of my usual length I cut too much off and It was real short. But right now who cared?
Finally the day came and I was nervous, especially when Faith disappeared to San Francisco without telling us. The hours went by and I was about to bust when it came 5:30 and no Faith. And we had to leave in a few minutes! Well she finally came home about ten minutes before we were to leave. My dream was almost at hand - I would see my Peter Noone!!!!
We arrived at the auditorium in one piece and got our seats. For some unknown reason Angela didn't seem excited. She had a radiant look and a cool smile. I thought she was nuts because I was about to pop! But I soon found out why.
All of a sudden she disappeared! I thought maybe she had gone to the rest room or something, but I looked up and there stood Herman holding hands with Angela!!! My mouth almost fell 10 feet. She looked at me, smiled and said something to Herman and he looked straight at me. I nearly died! They made such a good-looking couple. You could tell that he really liked her by the way he smiled at her.
She soon returned to her seat without Herman, but said nothing. So, I said

nothing because she'd tell us about him if she wanted to. I figured it was her business, but I couldn't believe that it happened.
The Hermits were soon on stage and were really fabulous. Herman kept looking at Angela and would sing special parts of songs to her. Some girls around noticed and started giving her dirty looks, but all she did was look at Herman with a look that is hard to describe.
As the Hermits had to leave, Angela jumped up and asked us for our souvenir books telling us to please wait in the car.
We waited and she arrived with all the books autographed and some glossy pics. Man, I almost flipped! She wanted so bad to bring us to Herman's hotel, but Erica, Dale and I couldn't go because our parents had set a strict curfew. You know how that can be!
She brought us home and I was happy, yet kinda sad because I had missed a chance to meet all of them.
Angela and Lynne went back to the hotel for a little party and I was told all about it the next day. That was when Angela told me how she met Peter (as she calls him!!) She also showed pix of him and her together and of the other guys.
You might think that I would hate her or something, but I don't because she's too nice and that is why Herman likes her (besides other reasons!!!) The only thing that goes thru my mind now is - What will happen next time we see Herman's Hermits???? Maybe nothing - but as long as Angela's around . . . .
