![]() MEMORIES are funny things. There are so many things that happen to us each day of our lives - and yet some things we remember and some things we don't. Herman has some very striking memories, some recent, and some that go way back to his childhood. These are the memories that haunt him! . . . Herman remembers his first love. The morning he met her, he was very upset. You see, it was his very first day of school - and Herman didn't want to go. He was scared, and he cried all the way there! But when he saw his teacher, Miss Robertson - and she was so pretty, and so nice, that he fell in love with her right on the spot. . . . Herman remembers another teacher, too! But this one, Miss Clowes, haunts Herman in another way. One day, as she stook behind him, she hit Herman in the leg for being disobedient. We'd better let Herm finish the rest of this story in his own words! "I turned around smartly," he told us, "cos I thought it was another boy - and smashed her right in the face!" Don't get the wrong idea, though. It was an honest mistake! And Herman only made it once. . . . Herman remembers his own little business enterprise when he was only fourteen years old. Being shrewd, he realized that his home town of Manchester was a "football-mad city." So Herm, a natual tycoon, started selling the local football paper outside pubs on Saturday nights."My parents didn't know - they'd have gone through the roof. But I sold papers till 10:30 P.M. on Saturday nights and even employed other kids, paying them a percentage. I was making good money from it," Herm told us. "But then the summer came, the football interest dropped, papers didn't sell and the world seemed against my business enterprise." . . . Herman remembers his first failure! It was after the release of his first record, and Herm took a promotion trip to America. He'd expected about 25,000 people to greet him - and only 12 people showed up! Since he's such a success, he can laugh at that now - but the memory still haunts him! |
