People who meet Peter Noone are immediately taken aback with his youthful good looks and his pistol-like wit. Those who have known him since the early days back when the Hermits made their overnight success, say the kid has definitely changed. Many of them still remark about how Herman's Hermits made such a smashing scene without riding the wave the Beatle crest made. Their own arrival and the lasting success they have enjoyed are pointed out by these extraordinary things: first the exciting way they have been able to gain popularity and secondly their continued reputation as the most appealing of all the so-called English imports. Still, something has affected Peter so much so that even the other members of the group say that he isn't the same unaffected guy they once knew. Is it that fame and wealth have gone to his head? Has he hit the mark at age nineteen with new worrries about where he will go? Looking back over the years it is obvious that the Hermits have made many successful records, such as, "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter", "I'm Henry the VIII I Am," "No Milk Today!" and "There's A Kind of Hush All Over The World", all of which have become their trademarks. ![]() Recently we sent our TEEN BEAT reporter out to investigate these hush-hush rumors. Too many fans, who have been loyal to the Hermits since they first formed in Manchester, would be hurt if the big news came out suddenly. Our reporter came right out and asked, "WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU, PETER?" Peter smiled his famous child-like smile and leaned back in his chair. "Is it that obvious?" he said. "I did my best to hide how I've felt for a long time but I guess my secret's made the rounds! "Well, I guess you know about the new movie the group and I have been shooting in England called 'Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter,' which will be released in the fall. |
We've been working very hard on it! In fact over the past two and a half years the guys and I have been going at this success thing very hard. I guess before any of us realized it - we made it! And it was kind of a miracle the way it happened, I really didn't think it would last! Then I look about me and I'm shocked to find such undying loyalty - and all those new shows and appearances to do! Wow! It's hard to believe that the group and I are really with it! I mean that we're what you call stars! I may seem moody and a little bit stand-offish at times, but I truly love people. I'm not putting you on or anything like that. It's just that I still feel like the real me - the way I was back in England. I still love all those things I did then - it's hard giving them up - those friends, your favorite hang-outs - you know, all those things a guy grows up with. I can still go back and all, but it's not the same for me anymore. ![]() I had my chance to forget Herman but I've learned to live with him! And he's okay in his place. What really bothers me is that I don't want my fans or my close friends to ever forget that I need them! That sometimes both me and Herman want to say a simple Thank you! But it's hard, you know?" Yes, Peter and Herman, all your fans and friends do realize it - now that the truth is out! It isn't easy being a star! The hardest thing for a star to do is to be humble! And, whether it's Peter or Herman saying the thank yous - TEEN BEAT understands. You're not bored! You're not afraid of being put down by newcomers! No, Peter, we understand! A star has to give up a lot of things to reach the top - and just once in a while a guy can get lonesome and just a little homesick! It even happens to the great ones. |
