![]() Herman's Hermits enjoy a bit of sport. We enjoy watching!
FROM HIS "home" at the top of the pop star heap, Peter Noone (sometimes known as Herman) took time to confide some of his private comings and goings. The result is a report (strictly confidential) on what he's doing and where he's doing it when he's not being a Hermit. It all has to do with home, family and fun. "I recently bought my parents and two young sisters a house in the Kent village of Biddenden. And that's where I spend every free weekend." Already Peter's been admitted by the country set - and he loves every minute of being there with them! "It's great there," he commented. "Usually, I just sit around and talk. But everyone there goes out on these big shoots, so I spent more than $300 on a gun to be one of the crowd. But I don't like shooting things very much, so I suppose I'll have to trade in the gun for a motor bike (motorcycle) or something." Besides the shooting, there are many tamer kinds of activities - like going to the local pub about a mile-and-a-half from the Noone home. "The pub's filled with farmers and farmers' sons," Peter said. "Lots of atmosphere . . . really great. I remember that the first time I walked in there, they asked me for my autograph. Then they hardly spoke to me after that!" Peter found out later, though, that the locals were avoiding him because they were ashamed of themselves! They'd thought, you see, that they'd imposed on Peter, bothered him by asking for his autograph. "It's all worked out now," Peter confided. "Since that first time, they've taught me how to play their special card game and how to throw darts. Now I go down there with my father often, play darts or just sit around and talk." This kind of life, Peter thinks, is good for him. It's countryish, peaceful, pleasant. "I also like it," Peter concluded, "because I get a lot of sleep by going home. There's nothing else for me to do!" |
