After counting your votes, once again, Herman's Hermits came out on top! And here's how it all began!
The "Heartbeats" were playing at a youth club which Peter Noone frequented. The group was short one singer, Peter stepped in, sang a song and was immediately accepted into the group. That was more or less the start of "Hermania", for Peter Noone was referred to as Herman, and the "Heartbeats" soon became known to the world as the "Hermits."
Peter Blair Denis Noone, was born to Denis and Joan Noone in Manchester, England on November 5th, 1947. As a young child, Herman always wanted to be an actor. At the age of 14 he had a part in "Knight Errant" and "Coronation Street," as well as appearing in some TV shows. Today Herman has combined his acting abilities with his singing career.
Bass guitarist Karl Green also was born in Manchester in 1947. He is a self-taught musician, receiving his first guitar at the age of ten. Besides playing a fine guitar he is quite good on the harmonica. Before joining the "Heartbeats" he played with a group called the Balmains which his brother managed. Karl also worked as an apprentice engraver for a year.

Derek Leckenby, lead and rhythm guitarist, was born to Clifford and Ellen on May 14, 1945 in Manchester, England. Lek, who likes reading autobiographies and biographies, attended Manchester University, where he studied Civil Engineering for two years. One evening while studying for exams, he was asked by Barry Whitwam if he would stand in with the group for a night. He did and later joined the outfit, after unfortunately failing his exams. However, Lek would like to continue his studies as soon as time permits.
Barry Whitwam, the group's drummer is another Manchester boy, born on July 21st, 1945. He entered show business at the age of thirteen. Barry's hobbies include working with cars and boats.
Lead and rhythm guitarist, Keith Hopwood, was born in Manchester on October 26th, 1946. He worked for a local telephone company before joining Herman. Keith almost didn't get to play with the group when his father absolutely forbade him to join any of the beat combos. His father relented on his decision and Keith became one of Herman's Hermits.
