MONEYHerman tells me his outlook has changed quite a bit since he came into the disc biz in August, 1964. "At first," he says, "I was all caught up with the glamour and excitement of show biz. But now - I admit it! - when I see a packed audience or hear that one of our discs has hit the charts, I start figuring out what it's gonna be worth in hard cash. I still dig the excitement - but I reckon you also have to be businesslike."Also - instead of hoping to own just a single hotel one day - the Lancashire lad hopes he may have a share in a company running a chain of them some time in the future. "Let's face it," he says, "I stay in so many hotels while touring around, I know about the good points and the bad through hard experience!" |

HAPPY HERMAN - Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone - better known as H-E-R-M-A-N- has always been a believer in close knit families. And the Noone clain has always been one of the closest in Manchester. Peter's parents have worked hard all their lives, and Peter's always wanted to make their lives easier. And he's done just that - in a grand way! He's bought a hotel for his folks to run. It's a perfect kind of business for older people who like other people. And it's the very first major investment Herman has made. It will probably always be his proudest! |
SURE SOLUTIONHerman tells me he has found a foolproof way of cutting his expenses on tour. You may think it sounds crazy - taking taxis on tour when there is a coach for transport - but then Herman is a sucker for over-sleeping.So? So he was always having to take a taxi to catch up with the coach! "Sure," Herman told me, "I used to get the hotel to call me in the morning. But I would just go back to sleep. Now the problem is in the hands of our two road managers. They have standing orders that if I don't get up on time - they are to lift me out of bed and drop me into a cold bath. "Moment I hear them turning on the cold tap I'm up like a rocket off it's pad!" |
