Herman's Mum talking about her best-dressed son

"My Peter? He's always been a tidy boy." That was how Herman's mum, Mrs. Joan Noone, greeted the news that her 17-year-old son had just been voted one of Britain's top ten well-dressed men.
"Of course I was really thrilled when I heard about it. Really chuffed. But Peter (Herman's real name) has always looked after his clothes.
"I think a lot of it stems from when he wore uniforms at grammar school and at Manchester School of Music.
"The boys always looked neat and tidy in their grey flannels and black and red blazers.
"But Peter must have been aware of how he looked when he was only seven. I remember he didn't want to wear a Dickie bow when he was first confirmed. He wanted to wear a tie - but I think I had my way on that occasion!
Then, his sister, Denise, did a lot for him. She's two years older, and she kept an eye on the way he dressed. But Peter never saved up his pocket money to buy clothes.
"Another thing that made him proud to look smart was getting those parts in TV's 'Knight Errant,' 'Family Solicitor,' and 'Coronation Street.' He was mixing with older actors, and trying to look as neat as they did.
"Mind you, this was before the long-hair business.
"Peter has to keep in good supply of clothes - especially shirts. The last time he went to America, I ironed 37!
""He loses so many to the fans, who take them as souvenirs. He orders shirts in batches at a time from Esquire, in Glasgow.
"We have a new baby daughter of 16 months, Suzanne, who seems likely to follow Peter in the clothes sense. She's already been offered modeling, and Peter has bought her some beautiful dresses from France and Belgium.
"But you know what gave me the biggest thrill? When Peter was phoned in Baltimore last week to comment on the best-dressed news item, he said": 'Phone my mum - she takes the credit.'"
