I'm told America is very beautiful, but don't ask us, cause we've never really seen it. We've visited over 33 cities, but if you ask us to describe the sights we've seen, we can only talk about hotel kitchens, back stairways, police uniforms (they're different in each state), backstage dressing rooms, and so on. Lek, Karl, Barry, Keith and myself would love to see America just like any tourist, but we're not over here as visitors, and we've had to face that. Of course we really wouldn't trade places with anyone even if we had the chance, and we're grateful to all our fans and everyone who has made our tours of America possible. Actually, we've really been quite lucky. We had the chance to see some of this beautiful country (even if it was from the highway), because we drove from city to city when we were on the Dick Clark Tour. Our first impression of America can be summed up in one word - BIG! There are so many people, and each state like a different world. For instance, the way of life in Texas is so different from life in New York City. We didn't really get to spend any time in the States where we appeared, because we were only there for a day, and we had to put on a show, then move on to the next place, but it certainly has been an education for us, and we'd love to go back and spend time sightseeing. We did have two days off in New York. The fellas and I had all kinds of plans as to what we wanted to do. However, we took one look at the crowds of kids outside the hotel and knew we'd never be able to wander around |
New York City without being trailed by hundreds of our fans. Don't get me wrong, I love our fans. In fact, I wish we could spend more time getting to know them, but everytime we try to, they get too wild, and the security guards are forced to rush us away. We're told that we should stay in our hotel rooms, because we cause riots if we don't. At first we tried to argue with the guards, because we didn't want to run away from our fans, but now we realize they are doing their jobs, and they really know what's best. I did manage to see the Empire State Building and Central Park though. Early one morning my manager and I had a business meeting. It was over by 9:30 AM, so instead of going back to the City Squire Hotel, where I knew I'd be stuck in my room, I forced them to go to the Empire State Building with me. I had a great time, and we spent the whole morning there. Then, we went to Central Park. I went rowing, fishing (with string and borrowed hook), played baseball, visited the zoo, and really had a fantastic time. The one thing we liked best about America was the people. They treated us so great, and we were really knocked out by the fantastic receptions and welcome we received. Everyone was so friendly, and I wish I could personally thank each and everyone for making America our second home. America is so big, and it will take a long time before we get to see it all, but we will never forget our wonderful American fans and friends, because without them, we never would have been here in the first place. |
