The rather unusual name of Herman comes from a cartoon character, Sherman, who bears a striking resemblance to their lead singer, Peter Noone. The Hermits was added only because it fitted the first name, first as Herman and The Hermits, it was later shortened to Herman's Hermits. The group was brought to the attention of independent record producer, Mickie Most, the man responsible for the hits of the Animals and The Nashville Teens. He travelled to see them at a concert in Bolton, was immediately impressed and signed them to a recording contract. The present line-up, Heman (vocal), Karl Green (bass guitar), Derek Leckenby (Lead and rhythm guitar), Barry Whitwam (drums), and Keith Hopwood (lead and rhythm guitar), has only been together for a short time. The personnel has changed a good deal since its formation, this however, has not impaired their popularity, their following is a large one. At the moment "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat" is riding high on the 2SM Top 100, with "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter", appearing as a Fast Flyer. |
